Details

•  The IYT Small Powerboat and RIB Master course is aimed at the individual that has no experience and would like to know the introduction to boating.
•  If you want to work in the marine industry as crew, this licence is essential.
•  The IYT SPB course is a commercially recognised course by the MCA and the FTA of the United Arab Emirates.
•  This course is designed for beginners or as a refresher course for the avid yachtsman.

To receive your IYT Small Powerboat and RIB Master qualification, you will need to complete the following:

1. A one day (8 – 10 hour) intensive theory course, covering elements of safety, rules, buoys, knots and more.
2. A one day (5 – 7 hour) practical. This is conducted on our Silvercraft 38 or GC Marine 31 feet training yachts. Learning essential techniques such as berthing, rope work, manoeuvring, MOB and more.
3. Theory exam (1 hour)
4. Night cruise (1 hour) - after the theory on day #1 in order to comply with the legislation of DMCA

     Introduction to Training Int. Yacht Training System

  • Safety: Equipment check
  • VHF – Operations:

               - Parts of VHF radios

               - Phonetic alphabet

  • Nautical terminology:

               - Types of Vessels

               - Hull types

               - Parts of vessels

               - Engines and drives

               - Instruments and electronic aids to navigation

  • Small Powerboats & RIBs

              - Tender launching & recovery

  • Anchors and anchoring
  • Introduction to weather:

               - Sources of weather information

  • Ropes and rope work:

               - Types of ropes

               - Knots

  • Basic Rules of the Road:

               - Buoys and marks

               - Lights, shapes, sound signals

               - Collision Regulations

  • Charts and Compass:

               - How to read and use a chart (Admiralty Charts, Chart 1)

               - How to use a compass

                 (Variation, deviation, course to steer)

  • Practical Night Cruise

2. Day Practical on board of our Yachts:

Practical skills / boat handling under power:

  • Main manners, customs and etiquette
  • Safety check: equipment, hull, engines
  • Electronic instruments:
            - VHF & GPS
  • Effects of tides, currents, wind
  • Practical rope work, docking lines              
  • Reading charts & steering by compass
  • Anchoring
  • Man over board
         - Picking up a mooring buoy            
  • Rules in harbor area
  • U-turn
  • Coming alongside (wharf and dock)
  • Clearing (wharf and dock)
