Sport plays an important role in the growth and appeal of any global city. It is a driver of economic development and has a significant bearing on tourism, lifestyle, public health and ultimately, a city’s international reputation. Dubai has long recognised this reality and has worked strategically for many years to invest in its resources and capabilities across the sport sector. Today, the UAE and Dubai is home to world-class facilities and venues, hosting homegrown local, regional and international events that welcome both elite athletes and grass roots participation.
It is estimated that over 1m spectators watch sports events in Dubai each year, with the highest individual attendance being over 100,000 at the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens over three days. The Dubai World Cup is the best attended single day of sport,
attracting 80,000 spectators each year.
The One Year Part Time Course at EMDI trains students in the following broad areas:
- The Business of Sports (Marketing, Managing Events, Operations, Venue Management, Facility Management, Media)
- The Different Federations (Olympic Movement, FIFA, ICC, Formula 1, Contracts & Talent Management, Sponsorship)
- The Production side of the event business (Planning, Logistics, Operations, Budgeting, Risk, Safety, Coordination, Venue Layouts, Floor Plans, Management)
- Understanding the Global Industry (Ethics & Integrity, Sports Law, Nutrition & Rehabilitation, Extreme Sports, E-Sports, Digital Tools and Technology)
Students will have opportunity to work on different sporting events across multiple categories of sports.Some of the Sporting events our students work on are Formula 1, Dubai Tennis Championships, Gold Events, Rugby 7s, Asia Cup etc.
There is a huge potential for employment and entrepreneurship- where freelance professionals are often sought after for their services.
