There is growing agreement that in a global economy, characterised by customisation, speed, and innovation, organisations' ability to effectively manage human and social capital is key to developing a sustained competitive advantage. Human capital represents knowledge, skills, and abilities, while social capital refers to the resources embedded in relationships. Both are necessary to implement the strategy of an organisation. However, unlike other forms of capital, such as financial capital and physical capital, human capital and social capital are not owned by companies but reside within the organisation's employees.
